<p>Listened to  rugby game on RTE radio in Seattle.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On the road again off on a long adventure.  After a 9 hour flight I arrived Seattle at 6pm local time Friday  and fly to Eugene, Oregon for my 10th world athletic championships. Many happy days in the past especially in 1993 when I was the Irish team manager in Stuttgart,  with the recently deceased Sean Naughton as team coach. Sonia was deprived of gold in the 3000m by the 3 Chinese who were never heard of again and admitted to doping. Sonia recovered to split them in the 1,500m for silver. The first games in Helsinki in 1983 Eamonn Coghlan took gold, in the 5,000m. In 1987 Peter Maher who I got back into athletics and went from being unable to run 100m to leading the marathon in Rome for 19 plus miles. At that stage he was incredibly half a mile ahead. The Italians removed all his drinks and with temperature at 35 plus he got dehydrated, watch the race on YouTube. Tokyo in 1991 was memorable,  for  a number of reasons. I travelled from Shannon to Moscow on an Aeroflot flight coming from Cuba. The famous coup broke out that morning and all the other passengers due to travel pulled out. I watched the proceedings for 2 days in Red Square when Yelsin orchestrated proceedings harranging the mob. I was actually in red square when the Russian tanks left which signaled the end of the coup which changed the world.  That evening I travelled to Tokyo and witnessed more fireworks on the track, particularly fascinated by the long jumping of Mike Powell and Carl Lewis both achieving the 2 longest jumps of all time. I do not know what Eugene has in store but it was a place made famous by an idol of mine Steve Prefontaine, a top class distance runner who tragically lost his life in a car accident. I have tickets for 8 sessions totally free from the chief organizer of the event Pierce O'Callaghan. On Thursday morning I leave for a week to Alaska to meet up with Ashley the brilliant violin player who came with Mitch and the band  to Ireland for my golden jubilee and played at 8 of the parties in the 8 parishes i ministered in. It's back to Seattle then a short delay before flying to Maui in Hawaii to link up with more friends. Then back to Seattle to link up with Anita Philpott, Sonia's greatest rival during her juvenile days. I will travel back to Dublin with her family on the 12th of August. Then it's prayer time with another pilgrimage to Medjugorie.</p>

<p>Great squad effort last night from the Junior A footballers who defeated Carrigtwohill in round 3 of the championship 1-9 to 0-8 to qualify for the quarter final. A dominant first half display left Cobh 1-7 to 0-3 in charge but Cobh would have been disappointed not to be further in front.</p>
<p>Carrigtwohill threw everything at Cobh in 2nd half pinning our lads back but credit to the strength of the squad Cobh were able to hold on to book a place in the next round. Thanks for the great support on the evening.</p>
<p>The Junior C footballers travel to Carrigtwohill tonight in their first round championship game at 8pm</p>

The team set up by the late Claire Cullinane is well established and they certainly add an extra charm to our already beautiful streetscape, bringing the past to life. Cobh Tourist Office wishes the team a very Happy Anniversary and continued success.</p>
