We had two special visitors on Spike Island last night! American YouTube duo Sam and Colby took a trip to our historic island to film some paranormal footage in our 1300 year old prison and fort. Be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming video on their YouTube channel!

Cove Sailing Club welcomed Iryna Lazaryev on board this week as part of the club's Women on the Helm series.&nbsp;
Iryna's sons have been crewing on boats and sailing their own Hobie cat out of Marlogue for the past 10 years and decided it was their mum's turn to share the joys of sailing!

We were delighted to be invited to view in the Prom, the very entertaining Cercle Celtique de Rennes a traditional music and dance team from Brittany (hosted by Barry Cogan and Comhaltas Douglas). The group are here as guests of Cork City to mark the 40th Anniversary of the twinning of Rennes and Cork.
Also welcoming the group was Johanna Murphy, President Cobh &amp; Harbour Chamber. Their trip to Cobh was facilitated through Peter T Kidney.

Tidy Towns -----GIVING BACK

Giving back to their host town of Cobh we had TEC Spanish students, who are here for 3 weeks to improve their English and experience living in Ireland, out helping on our Community Group Challenge for just 1hour. No stopping them polishing the glass wall, washing information signs, scrubbing seats, weeding paths and sweeping stones at the Titanic Memorial Garden. We were just delighted with all their hard work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Our volunteers litter picked and butt picked on the Five Foot and from Cobh Heritage Centre through the squares to the Old Town Hall.&nbsp;
Looking forward to welcoming Rushbrooke Rowing Club Cobh, Cobh Wanderers Afc and Cobh Triathlon Club join us over the next few weeks.
Springfield Ramblers were honoured to receive the fabled Kennedy Cup&nbsp;

The Kennedy Cup is a National trophy awarded at Under-14 level and is the pinnacle of underage soccer in Ireland . It was last won by Cork in 1989 with a certain Mr. Keane being on that team
It gives the club great pride that Luke McDonnell, is now a winner of this great competition becoming the sixth Cobh player to win it and the first Cobh lad to captain the side
Winning manager Robin O'Day and goalkeeping coach Stephen O'Sullivan accompanied the Cup.
Robin gave an insight into the journey the players had from initial trials of 200 of the best invited players down to a final squad of 20 who formed a great team spirit and bond.
He thanked the parents for their support and the clubs and coaches for the work that they do
Robin commended Luke on his performances during the week long tournament in Limerick and in particular during the trial process where he showed his leadership qualities. And a particular story about where Luke had played all weekend in Dublin at a tennis tournament and still showed up to training ready to go in true captain style.
We would like to congratulate all involved in this marvelous achievement and in particular to the coaches. Furthermore, our thanks to Robin and Stephen for taking the time and effort to bring the Cup to Cobh on this evening.
A big thanks to Cobh Ramblers FC goalkeeper Darragh Burke who came along.
Darragh himself featured on the 2017 Kennedy Cup team and came up through Springfield Ramblers🔴⚪ 🔵🔴

Fiona Kelly addresses themes of ecology and society. Her solo show A Temporary Iteration addresses the esker's ruination from extractivist activity through an imagined topography made of sculpture, moving image and sound. A series of events organised by SIRIUS in dialogue with the artist accompanies the exhibition.

Dr Robert Meehan provides scientific and historical information about the eskers, formed during the last glacial age, delving into their formation and idiosyncrasies as well as exploring their ecological and pollical importance in Ireland.
Dr Robert Meehan is a geologist and one of Ireland's foremost authorities in applied Quaternary geology and the last Ice Age. He is a consultant in ground analysis, groundwater and surface water protection, site investigation and geodiversity.

&nbsp;It's always fun waking up early to watch the final round of the Open Championship, or as we commonly call it in the U.S, the British Open. I've set the alarm clock for 4:00 or 5:00 am several times.&nbsp;
But only twice did I not let several smashes of the snooze bar stop me from actually watching those first tee shots. I can remember both of them like they were yesterday.&nbsp;
The first, was in 2009, when Stewart Cink prevented 59-year-old Tom Watson from becoming the oldest-ever winner of a major title at Turnberry. Watson had played flawless golf all week, but a well-struck 8-iron trickled over the 18th green, leading to a bogey and playoff instead of outright victory. The rest, as they say, is history.
The second time I kept my appointment with The Open broadcast was 2015, when Irishman Paul Dunne captured the golf world's attention by setting a single-round scoring record (66 in round 3) and holding the 54-hole lead.
And Dunne was an amateur. His date with history on that final Sunday would put him up against an 85-year run for the pros. The last amateur to have the 54-hole lead at The Open was a guy named Bobby Jones in 1927. The last amateur to win The Open was Jones in 1930 - his grand slam year.
He and his caddy, his college coach from the University of Alabama Birmingham, had a strategy coming into the week: play each day hole-by-hole, pick your targets on each hole, follow the best, most forgiving lines and commit to each swing. Despite the lack of precedent since Jones, both were convinced that Dunne could win. And he played like it.
On a rare Monday finish at St. Andrews -- high winds had delayed play earlier in the week -- Dunne went off in the final pairing with 2010 British Open champ Louis Oosthuizen. He would ultimately fade under the final round spotlight, but he handled himself well and earned the affection of the Scottish crowds.
“It was cool. I actually said on my way up that this is as much fun as any golfer can have, anywhere. It was great; I could hear my name being called from the crowd,” he said at the time. “It feels like I’m at home.”
Johnny Goodman remains the last amateur to win a men's professional major, capturing the U.S. Open in 1933. Six amateurs will tee it up at St. Andrews this weekattempting to replicate the feat, one that may be just a little more within reach thanks to the example of Paul Dunne.
