<h3>Basketball fundraiser</h3>

<p>There was (as expected!) a fantastic turnout to the Amy Duggan 3v3 fundraiser, as a mix of club players and Spanish students came together in support of our very own Irish International who will fly the flag in both Portugal, and at the U18’s Euro’s in Bulgaria in the coming month.</p>
<p>The 16 and under group kicked off the action in Colaiste Muire at 5.30, and were followed by some seriously competitive action from 7.30 with the over 16’s.</p>
<p>From the first check in, games either end of the court saw quality shooting, finishing, defence, a few dunks, and even a blood nose (accidental!😊) thrown in for good measure… until the only two teams remained, with Eve, Jake and Pablo facing off v Emma, Leah and Sam.</p>
<p>The game was back and forth with both teams tied 10-10 with 3 minutes remaining. At that point Jake’s dominance pushed his side over the line to claim the bragging rights in a quality game.</p>
<p>The most important aspect of the evening however was the coming together of so many to support Amy ahead of the biggest month of basketball (so far!) in her young career…</p>
<p>As Amy herself spoke to thank everyone at the end of the evening, it was a proud club moment to see so many of her fellow Cobh club members cheer and clap her on, as will the whole of The Great Island (and even a little bit of Spain 😉) when she dons the Green &amp; White in the coming weeks on foreign shores.</p>
<p>Amy is credit to her family, team mates, coaches and more, and shows that no matter where you start, or what club you play for - if you’re willing to put in the work, you will reap the rewards…🇮🇪</p>
<p>A huge thanks to Domo, Cathy, Audrey, Ailish, Claire, Dave, numerous parents and everyone who ran the event wonderfully, and all the players who turned out as well  - even Domo’s music couldn’t wreck a fantastic evening…🙈😂.</p>
<p>Over to you Amy kid - we’re super proud of you already, and we will be even more so in the coming weeks!  🇮🇪🏀💪</p>
<h3>SWELS</h3>
<p>Good evening everyone, our long awaited Mass for deceased members will take place in the main hall of the Community Centre on Monday morning July 25th at 11am. Please pass on this information to past and present members of the SWELS. Fr Aquin will celebrate our mass with music by Dominic Finn, it will no doubt be a lovely morning. <p>FRANK SWEENEY: SIRIUS and aemi’s 2022 commissioned artist</p>
<p>SIRIUS is partnering with aemi to commission a new film by the artist Frank Sweeney. The partnership between SIRIUS and aemi enables him to benefit from continued support and mentorship throughout the year from both organisations as well as a residency at SIRIUS.</p>
<p>Frank comments: “I am delighted and privileged to accept the aemi &amp; SIRIUS film commission for 2022. As an emerging artist, it is invaluable to be given the freedom to experiment with new work with the continued support of these organisations. I cannot imagine sustaining an artist film practice in Ireland without the continued support of aemi over the past two years. The residency and the exhibition at SIRIUS are an opportunity to research and reflect on the project as well as present it in the wonderful surroundings of Cobh.”</p>

<p>Cobh library is delighted to be hosting a fantastic new exhibition this month by the Cobh Animation Team titled ‘Love, Light, Laughter’ to celebrate their 10th Anniversary! 🎉</p>

<h3>Figure Skating</h3>

<p>Congratulations to the 5 girls from Cobh Lucy Coughlan, Yoki He, Michelle Qian, Sophia O'Keefe and Nadia Stefko who were part of the Cork Figure Skating Association group in Toulouse last week.</p>
<p>They were competing in the Wifsa World Open.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Lucy received the bronze position in her solo program and gained gold in her Dance.</p>
<p>Yoki He earned silver position in her program.</p>
<p>The three other girls positioned very well in their first world open in tough categories.</p>
<p>Over 30 skaters from Cork travelled to the event. In total they came home with 8 Gold, 4 Silver, and 5 Bronze medals.</p>

<p>Manyt of you know the historic connection of Cobh and The Liberator Daniel O' Connell who, with his brother Maurice,attended school here in Ballybrassill at Reddington Academy for two years in 1788/89.Dave Verling,one of our local historians,would like to inform you that a Cobh Historical outing is taking place on Saturday 23rd as below.Bus leaves outside convent in Cobh at 9am and cost is 56 euros including bus fare,entrance to Derrynane House and a 2 course dinner at The Mills,Ballyvourney.As only limited places left on the bus please contact Eileen Dorothy at 0851146607 for booking and any further inquiries as soon as posdible.</p>

<h3>All Ireland Hurling Final</h3>
<p>&nbsp;Congratulations to the Men's Senior Section Secretary Mr. Johnny Barry on being selected to act as an Umpire at next Sunday's All Ireland Senior Hurling Final in Croke Park. This is a great honour and privilege for Johnny who is equally passionate about Hurling as Golf and a great Club Member. We wish him every success on the big day. Enjoy the occasion Johnny, you deserve it.</p>
