<h3>Garden of Reflection</h3>

<h3>The Cobh Garden of Reflection is a Cobh Tidy Towns initiative in association with Cobh Parish. The enhancements to the area invite us to reflect, rest and remember the Covid 19 pandemic.</h3>
<p>The garden honours those who have sadly passed away, celebrates the community spirit and hard work of the community and also reminds us of how rich Cobh is with so many places and experiences to enjoy on our Great Island.</p>

<p>Once Bishop Crean and the Parish Pastoral Council gave their blessing, the planning for the Cobh Covid Garden of Reflection began in earnest. When you visit the garden you will see many inspirational quotes set amongst the beautiful flowers – you’ll see one from the Bible but you’ll see others from Kurt Cobain, Martin Luther King Jr., Charlie Mackesy, Helen Keller, Robin Williams, Emma Donoghue and many more.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The one with particular relevance to this project is one from Fred Rogers:</p>
<p>‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping’ – and there were quite a few helpers.</p>
<p>Bishop Crean saw how this underutilised green area will make Cobh an even better place to live in, work in and to visit and enhance the lives of people living here. In his own words it was a “no brainer” to do something with the space.</p>
<p>The people of Cobh have supported Cobh Tidy Towns for over 40 years but over the past 13 years the town has been transformed by a community wide effort to make Cobh a place that we are all proud to call home. By scooping so many awards with prize money in 2021, along with community support by buying our fundraising calendar, the support of our sponsors, those who have fundraised for us and a contribution from the Cobh Chronicle we were able to fund this project fully and give back with added value to the people of Cobh.</p>
<p>The helpers referred to by Fred Rogers include Paul McSweeney who draughted the design, Malcolm Kitt who has made us smile with his roadside floral and artistic displays and who produced a list of some inspirational quotes for us and Mary McCormack who gave us a superb list of seanfhocails.</p>
<p>Cobh Tidy Towns was lucky to find the right people for this project and Damian from RL Paving, Kevin from Stonehouse Nameplates and Conor from B2B signs were all thoroughly professional and straightforward to work with.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Our Tidy Towns volunteers are fantastic and painted these railings, while Hendrick, Wil and Jim put hours of work into the landscaping and the Cathedral caretaker Martin continues to cut the grass.</p>
<p>Things don’t just happen. They are made to happen.</p>
<p>This project was managed by Ruth Ring and Hendrick Verwey and the results speak for themselves.</p>
<h4>The Cobh Community now has a wonderful space in which to enjoy views, to observe nature and all that it provides, to take time out, to reflect on life and its ups and downs and to be comforted, inspired or provoked by our carefully chosen inspirational quotes. Enjoy!&nbsp;</h4>

<p>On Saturday the 10th September in conjunction with Explore Your Shore and the National Biodiversity Data Centre we will be running a 'BioBlitz' at Cuskinnny Bay to see how many species we can find on the shore of the bay during low tide. It will be a fun event for everyone to take part in and we will be giving more info on the day closer to the time. We are looking for seashore experts to help people on the day to identify what they find on the shore on the day. <p>The senior team got off to a flyer in their first competitive game of the season with a comprehensive six goal victory over Mallow tonight. A very young Wanderers outfit, captained by the experienced Eoin Hastings, played some super football throughout the game and were unlucky not to put up a bigger score having hit the post or crossbar on at least three occasions. The other pleasing aspect of the game was that it had six different scorers and all the goals were quality. The pick of the finishes has to go to Nathan O' Connell who volleyed home from outside the box in the 43rd minute for a superb goal. Mallow battled well throughout but the gap of two divisions showed in the second half when Wanderers added four to the first half brace. The 3rd round game will be against either Douglas Hall or Kinsale next Friday on the Stephen Ireland Astroturf in Old Church Park. This talented and exciting young team are worth a look at....for any football follower. Well done to all involved tonight.</p>

<p>The junior team backed up their 5-1 1st round win over Rockmount on Wednesday night with a 5-0 win over Riverstown in the 2nd round of the Junior Centenary Cup in Glanmire today. Jamie Gilmartin got his scoring for the season under way from the penalty spot at the end of the 1st half. Luqman Kassim made it three in two games while Emmaneul Oneal was also on target for Eddie Stanton's men. They will take on the winner of the Everton/Ringmahon tie in the 3rd round next Saturday afternoon.</p>

<p>Cobh Wanderers season tickets are available now at a cost of €40. They can be purchased at the next senior game on Friday evening against Douglas Hall in the 3rd round of the Centenary Cup. <p>We had a brilliant closing event of Fiona Kelly's solo show A Temporary Iteration on Saturday, 20 August. Kelly shared her vision and our Programme and Operations Manager, Aideen Quirke, provided a response. They discussed the ideas and processes that inform the artist's practice and highlighted her use of new media and research in this exhibition, which enabled her to expand her formal and conceptual language. The exhibition was produced by SIRIUS and curated by Miguel Amado, the Director of SIRIUS.</p>

<p>Our very own hospital staff, Megan, Tracy, Phil and Minty are going to jumping out of a plane at 13,000 ft for Breaking The Silence Cobh and Cobh Hospital on September 10th, World Suicide Prevention Day.&nbsp;</p>
