<p>As a club, the safety of all our patrons is the most important consideration in every game.</p>
<p>We are thankful that nobody was injured when a section of our pitch fencing collapsed yesterday in the area occupied by the Cork City fans as they celebrated a goal.</p>
<p>We could never have foreseen such a large surge forward onto the fence but we are satisfied that its collapsible design prevented any injury.&nbsp;</p>
<p>A greater dispersion of Cork City fans specifically in this area was probably advisable and we recognise this. There was sufficient space in this terraced area to allow for greater dispersion, specifically behind the dugouts and there was a joint responsibility here.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Critically the allocation of families to the seated Liam McMahon stand prevented any children from being present during the surge.</p>
<p>As part of our debrief of the game we will action any learnings for us.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Finally we would like to thank the Gardai, the Cork City staff and FAI representative and our own volunteers for their timely reactions.</p>

<h3>The idea of "Scout Scarf Day" on August 1 is that all active and former scouts are asked to wear their scout scarfs to make the "Spirit of Scouting" visible: Once a Scout - Always a Scout!&nbsp;</h3>

<p>The date of the event commemorates the very first Scout Camp on Brownsea Island in 1907.</p>
<p>﻿Of course, the scarf is only a symbol but a strong symbol for the scout promise and for our mission to leave the world as a bit better a place than we had found it. The 25th Cork Cobh neckerchief continues to see new parts of the world and meet new people every year thanks to our amazing youth members! We can't wait to see where you take it next!</p>

<p>Proving she has more than just that well-known premium BMW engine under the bonnet, Orla O'Rourke (Keen On Sport) pulled another rabbit out of her hat with an audacious run over this short distance which earned her a 1st place prize in her age category, not to mention that she crossed the line ahead of scores of athletes decades younger than her!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Following a hedonistic 65th birthday party days earlier that would put a Roman Emperor to shame, with the gardai plus trained negotiators summoned to his house during the early hours, Bobby Anglim (Navy) came out all guns blazing with a humdinger of a run, scalping sub 7 minute miles and a 1st place age category prize for his endeavours. Whoa Nellie!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Right on her father's heels was the ever-improving Suzanne Alcock (temp reg).&nbsp;</p>
<p>No quarter asked or given, as always with Suzanne, this young lady knows how and when to let it go, leaving nothing out there save for the burning trail of rubber from her athletic shoes.&nbsp;</p>
<p>There could be trouble ahead. She nearly didn't race after calling in sick to DePuy Synthes, but Deirdre Meyler (DePuy Synthes) threw caution to the wind and toed the start line - in for a penny, in for a pound. Not long returned from injury, Deirdre put in a sterling effort and bagged the in-house prize, a very fancy plaque, if you don't mind, as the first female athlete home for the hosts.</p>
<p>Shown his wife's heels, Shane Meyler (Navy) was the final Ballymore Cobh athlete over the line on the night. Revisiting Haulbowline Island for the first time since he retired, the scene of sepia-toned halcyon days onboard Irish Naval cruisers, destroyers and aircraft carriers, poor Shane was a pitiful blubbering mess as he made his way along the route. Not his finest moment, the poor crater. Sure God love us, are you alright now, petal?&nbsp;</p>
