<h3>Katlyn Mullan Crowned  Regatta Queen</h3>

<p>One of the highlights of the Cobh Peoples Regatta is the selection and crowning of the Regatta Queen. After a weekend of brilliant weather,  music and events the final event before the fireworks was the selection and crowning of the Regatta Queen. Rain threatened to put a damper on the proceedings, apart from a few sprinkles,  thankfully the torrential rain experienced in other parts did not visit Cobh. Katryn Mullan was crowned queen the first in 3 years because of Covid to the delight of the huge gathering  in the promenade. It provided a fitting climax and due reword for the committee who made a huge effort tot bring the regatta back after it seemed unlikely.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>THANKS</h3>
<p>Personal thanks to the Committee for their invitation to the launch of the Regatta. My apologies for now being able to attend the launch, I arrived back from a visit to the USA on Saturday evening and came back to Cobh on Sunday. I'm delighted for the committee that the weekend was such a huge success and during my time in the USA I was able to promote the Regatta on the Xplore Local Cobh App. as I try to promote everything happening in Cobh and the Great Island. All you have to do is email laimkelleher44@gmail.com and it will be uploaded on the App.</p>

<p>Cobh People's Regatta organiser Sarah O'Connor presents David Doyle from Muskateer who came 1st in Class 2 IRC with the Spit Lighthouse Trophy, along with Niall Hawes, Commodore Cove Sailing Club - and she also presented Helen McGrath from Brian Curtis's Deja Vue, with a prize for coming first in the Traditional Class. Full prizegiving photos and results coming soon.</p>

<p>Lots of work went into the stage, light and sound and we are so grateful to Dan, Aaron and all the team at D2K Events Cork for the production they put on. The stage in Casement Square was unreal and the sound was even better. The Promenade was pumping also. Great team and plenty of staff on the ground all weekend. Highly recommend these guys.</p>

<p>And so ends Cobh highlight of the year, @cobhregatta 2022. Over the weekend over 20 hours were volunteered at the event !!! .</p>
<p>A huge thank you to our crews who provided the cover over the weekend. We were delighted to provide EMT EFR and FAR crews. Ye really are a force of nature !</p>

<p>CHRIS A professional athlete who completed his first triathlon in Youghal, Co Cork 14 years ago returned to the town on Sunday and became the first man over the line at the Ironman competition. It was his first attempt  at the full Ironman event.</p>
<p>Chris is   a member of Leeval AC as his fiancee Jess Bruton a native of Cobh, on leave from St Marys's NS, Jess has already qualified from the world event at Kona inn Hawaii later in the year and easily won her section. Due to the prohibitive cost involved Jess  we have been told, may not be able to take part. But I'm sure that if she could get sponsorship she would certainly reconsider&nbsp;</p>
<h3>&nbsp;&nbsp;Chris  took just over eight hours and 38 minutes to complete the 3.8km swim, a 180km bike course and a 42.2km run.</h3>

<p>Chris  said that he was most  grateful to Youghal for all the support shown to him over the years.</p>
<p>“I started in this sport in Youghal, and everybody was so good to me — looking after me, showing me the ropes. I felt like today I had to give something back as a thank you for everything they’ve done. The hardest part of the race was not getting carried away by the crowds.</p>
<p>Windmill Hill was an unbelievable goosebumps experience, and the run course as well. I’ve never had an experience like that before, and that was worth an extra ten percent alone with the crowds.”</p>
<p>&nbsp;2,500 athletes took part in the event amid inclement weather conditions with temperatures reaching the late twenties.</p>

To John and Laura Innes and race director John Wallnutt &amp; team, a huge congratulations for the relentless efforts to make today the success it was.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Well done to Garda Síochána - Cork, Kerry &amp; Limerick - Southern Region, the fantastic volunteers and our local triathlon and athletics clubs who kept everyone safe during today’s race. Well done to the medical teams, fire service and ambulance service for their work.&nbsp;</h3>
<h3>Congratulations to our athletes from home and abroad for their outstanding performance. Last but not least, a huge well done to the thousands and thousands of spectators for cheering on today’s participants. It was a very memorable weekend 🏅</h3>
