There are so many people making a difference and contributing to making where we live a better place. A big thank you to Mohamed for giving some much needed TLC to the old water pump and old agricultural diesel pumps mounted on the wall at Applegreen on the Ticknock approach to town. They look amazing.

<h3>Pirates awards night</h3>
Pirates hosted their adult rugby awards night, toasting the adult rugby panel and their achievements this season. This young panel, with the majority in their late teens and early twenties. Since Christmas the lads played 10 games, and only coming out on the wrong side of the results twice. The latest being against Thurles in the Munster Junior Plate final and the other result was against Ennis in the Munster Junior Cup at home when covid and injuries played a huge factor.&nbsp;

In his opening address club chairman Paul Kenny thanked the coaching and backroom staff for their commitment during the season, while acknowledging long time club sponsors Laya Healthcare for their contribution. His final comment, a testament to the age profile of this squad, reflected the number of seasons these young men can look forward to together in Pirates.&nbsp;
Club coach Mark O’Connell, ably assisted by Ken McNamara, brought a focus on the achievement of the team, in particular the second half of the season in the hope that an understanding of their potential be recognized. The presentation of the players awards (sponsored by Dion McKeown CDE Components) were as follows:-&nbsp;
Players clubman of the year – Ian Jones
Most improved forward – Ben O’Donovan&nbsp;
Most improved player – Rory Pierce&nbsp;
Players nominated player of the year – Owen McSweeney&nbsp;
Player of the year – Ben Kennedy&nbsp;

Fionn Burke was also recognized for his assistance with the match day organization.
Whilst all of the winners made speeches worthy of Oscar winners, the statement of the evening came from Ben. He commented on the fact that it was his first season in adult rugby, and that it naturally brought a level of nerves and the unknown. However, after a few months of playing with the squad he felt like he was with them years and is eagerly looking forward to many more to come. Mark O’Connell, in his presentation, said that Ben epitomizes the ideal approach for any rugby player, train hard and play hard with zero fuss.&nbsp;
The last award of the evening was presented by club president Dave Doyle. Paul Kenny once again took to the stage to award Ken McNara the chairman's select as Cobh Pirate of the year.
<h3>&nbsp;Juvenile awards</h3>
The Club annual juvenile awards night for our 13s, 14s and 16s will take place in The Paddocks on Thursday 19th May.&nbsp;
