"Fine girl you are!" The Holy Ground was a name given to the eastern part of Cobh during the 19th century. Its name is quite ironic considering that the Holy Ground was an area for returning seafearers to "make the rafters roar" receiving much business from the transatlantic ships that stopped in Cobh. This area of Cobh is commemorated through the folk song ‘The Holy Ground’ which has been performed by ‘The Dubliners’ and ‘The Clancy Brothers’.
