MJ O Neill Artisan Butchers

Artisan butcher shop in Clonakilty. M J O Neill opened the shop at 7 Pearse Street (Sovereign Street) in 1914 with his wife, Bridget. It started life as a pub/ butcher shop. During the 1950s, Haulie O' Neill and his wife Eileen took over the running of the shop, and made the decision to concentrate on the meat side of the business. This coincided with an upgrade of the abattoir on Astna Street to ensure that it reached the hightest standards, something that is passionately maintained today. It is currently the only abattoir connected to a butcher shop in Clonakilty and one of the very few left in the country. Today, the shop and abattoir are run by Mike and Marie O' Neill, who continue to supply the people of West Cork with local produce. They are proud to be part of such an incredible tradition in its third generation.
