Crafted by Kevin Holland, this work was inspired by a Humpback Whale named Boomerang who has been returning most years to the coast near Clonakilty since the first recorded sighting in August 2001. The sculpture inspired the logo for the adjacent distillery. Sculpted from copper the tail has weathered over time to gain a beautiful patina, quite different in appearance to the copper pot stills in the distillery window. The Whale’s Tail is a landmark for those travelling the Wild Atlantic Way and a reminder to us all that we should do everything possible to ensure our Humpback whales continue to return in increasing numbers so they can be watched and enjoyed by future generations.
