Model Railway Village

The West Cork Model Railway Village depicts West Cork in delightful miniature form serving the towns of Clonakilty, Kinsale, Bandon and Dunmanway. The Model Village is a fully scaled handmade model of the old West Cork Railway Line with working trains. The models and figurines are carefully handmade on site to a scale of 1:24. Miniature Railway The Miniature Railway has been running since 1994. The trains use electric motors with pick-up shoes that pick up the power from the track. Because of this the 500 metres of track has to be cleaned daily to remove tarnish. The model engines and goods carriages seen travelling around miniature West Cork are typical 1940 style. Remote Control Boats Remote Control Boats were added to the Model Village in 2018. They take pride of place in miniature Kinsale Harbour under the watchful eye of the soldiers in Charles Fort. There are four remote control boats: Ard Rí, Eldorita, Cloich na Coillte and An Rinn. The Village Café Relax and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in our Café. Fairtrade barista-style coffee and a choice of Barry’s or Herbal tea. Homemade cakes, ice-cream and cold drinks. The Village Café is open daily 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Gift Shop The Model Village Gift Shop is aptly housed in an authentic train carriage! Stocking a wide range of souvenirs which are bound to suit all ages and budgets.
