Meat matters to Michael Webb and has mattered to the Webb family for the past 78 years since Jack Webb first came into Castlerea from Ballyhaunis and set up his butcher’s shop. Apart from killing locally-sourced animals, Webb’s makes all its own burgers, cures its own bacon and makes its own sausages. “People come in with recipes and we make them up for them. Then some people come in and want us to make up a special sausage recipe and we do that for them. We also kill for farmers and get the meat ready for the deep freeze. No job is too big or too small.” So whether it’s traditionally cured bacon, homemade sausages or locally sourced beef or lamb that you’re after, all can be sourced locally at Webb’s butchers.
