Cloonfad Derrylahan Loop

Cloonfad Scenic Walks are a series of trails located near the village of Cloonfad, Co. Roscommon. From Castlerea, it takes about 20-minutes by car to reach the trailhead where you will find ample free parking. Set within a mature forest and surrounded by rural countryside, the trails include several viewpoints, picnic areas, and ancient landmarks (such as a ringfort, mass rock, standing stone, and sweat house). The area is flanked to the south by Slieve Dart, a hill that has age-old ties to St. Patrick and the mythical Irish giant, Finn MacCool. Cloonfad Scenic Walks Resource Centre in Derrylahan makes for a great starting point. Here you can find well-illustrated maps of the routes and a small café run by a wonderful group of local volunteers. Fuel up for your walk with a fresh cup of coffee, or pop in after your loop for a well-deserved sweet treat. Dogs are permitted on the trails, so long as they are kept on a lead at all times. Most of the routes are buggy-friendly.
