Located on the Southside of Castlerea’s Market Square, Lord Mount-Sanford built a schoolhouse in c. 1820, with male, female and infants' rooms and living accommodation for the schoolteacher. It was set back from the street line, giving it its own little square, and it adopted the style of the gate lodges with single-storey pedimented gable-fronted wings facing each other.
