Castlerea Railway Museum is the culmination of one man's childhood dream of owning his very own train. Owned and run by Sean Browne, the museum features a 1955 A55 diesel locomotive which Sean purchased at scrap value from the CIE in 1994. In the years since 1998 (when the train made its final journey from Dublin to Castlerea), the museum has evolved into a treasure-trove for enthusiasts and anyone interested in by-gone days. Sean's enthusiasm for Irish locomotive history is nothing short of inspiring and infectious. A visit here makes for a great day out with the whole family. The museum is located adjacent to Hells Kitchen Bar in Castlerea which is now unfortunately closed. However, you can still visit the museum by appointment.
