The Department of Community Development has allocated €40,000 for a pre-development study required to progress village renewal works in Crosshaven and Cork County Council is allocating a further €10,000, members of Carrigaline Municipal District (MD) were informed at their monthly meeting.
‘The study will centre on environmental assessment and feasibility and will serve as a demonstrator project that will inform the Department’s approach to supporting same under funding streams such as the Town and Village Renewal Scheme’, said MD officer Noelle Desmond.
Crosshaven has also been earmarked along with at least five other centres to benefit from funding under the Village Enhancement Scheme. A final decision on which villages will be chosen could be made at the next MD meeting. The annual funding for the VES is €68,750 with Half Way, Ballinhassig and Ringaskiddy getting allocations in 2019.
Centra Crossing
Cllr Aidan Lombard (FG), at a recent MD meeting, had a motion asking the council to look at options to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians between Centra and the car park in Crosshaven.
The current arrangement, he argued, wasn’t working. A crossing was removed previously as it didn’t comply with regulations but a solution still needed to be found. He also asked that a ‘No Parking’ sign be located opposite Centra.
Cllr Audrey Buckley (FF), in support, said she received lots of representations from concerned residents about the lack of a crossing. Cathaoirleach Seamus McGrath (FF) concurred saying it could be very chaotic at the location and was a safety concern. Cllr Marcia D’Alton (Ind) also supported the motion. 
In reply, senior executive engineer Madeleine Healy said that since there was already a pedestrian crossing 100 metres away, it would not be practical. However, she undertook to have the area looked at and try to come up with a solution to the issues raised as well as examining the request for a ‘No Parking’ sign.
