The Columban Way route follows the journey of Saint Columbanus starting from his birthplace in the Blackstairs Mountains area of Myshall Co. Carlow and continuing through Kildare, Laois, Meath, Fermanagh, Bangor Co. Down where he trained and onto Wales, France, Germany, Austria and ending in Bobbio, Italy where was buried in 615AD. Overall, the total length of the Columban Way is 2500km of which roughly 250km will is on the island of Ireland. This small portion of the Columban Way will take you from Bagenalstown to Leighlinbridge, roughly 5km and double that for a round trip. This is a beautiful walk along the banks of the River Barrow.
