Achill

The Banshees of Inisherin, which was largely filmed on location on Achill Island, has won four BAFTAs at the 2023 awards ceremony. The film, which was also partially shot on Inis Mór in County Galway, had received a total of ten nominations for this year’s BAFTAs.
Writer and director Martin McDonagh was awarded Best Original Screenplay, having also been nominated in the Best Director category. Kerry Condon, who played Siobhán Súilleabháin, won the award for Best Supporting Actress while Barry Keoghan, who played Dominic Kearney, was awarded for Best Supporting Actor. Keoghan won ahead of fellow cast member Brendan Gleeson, who was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The film itself won the award for Outstanding British Film, which raised some eyebrows among the Irish crew and cast – not to mention the locals and extras – until it was pointed out that funding for the movie came primarily from the UK’s Film4.
